This course explores some of the major trends, composers, works, and performance issues in opera from 1600-2020. A combination of well-known, little known, indigenous, female and BIPOC authored operas will be discussed. Music making will be explored from a variety of interpretive frameworks including gender, race, and ideology. Prerequisites: MU266 (or MU264*) and MU271, or permission of the instructor.†
